Maintenance Unit Leader – Altona

Production, Planning & Scheduling

Two exciting opportunities are now available for experienced and passionate Maintenance professionals with planning and supervisory experience, based at our production facility in Altona North. The successful candidate will report to a Unit Manager in either Baking or Pastry.


Key accountabilities include:

  • Coordinate and plan engineering maintenance activities utilising the MEX CMMS system
  • Drive scheduled predictive, preventative, and corrective maintenance
  • Implement lean manufacturing concepts, including asset reliability (clean/inspect/lubricate) and autonomous maintenance strategies
  • Prepare schedules for internal staff and external contractors, using the current computerised maintenance system
  • Work with Production Management to schedule labour and resources for effective production and maintenance outcomes
  • Scope full extent of maintenance requirements, including repair, preventative and design-out activities
  • Develop cost and time estimates of planned maintenance work
  • Oversee completion of work orders for all internal work requests and allocations of tasks to appropriate trades and team members
  • Monitor the skill base across the team and identify training requirements
  • Promote a safe work culture and ensure compliance with legislative requirements and Company policies and procedures

The successful candidate will possess:

We are seeking someone who is hands on and will enjoy working in a fast paced, team-based environment:

  • Trade qualified (minimum Cert III is essential)
  • Expert user of MEX CMMS
  • Ideally, experience working in a complex food manufacturing or FMCG environment
  • Solid and practical experience utilising lean manufacturing tools and techniques
  • Understanding of the requirements of Health and Safety Regulations / legislation directly relating to Engineering
  • Familiarity with BRC audits
  • Strong PC literacy
  • Well developed problem solving capability
  • An analytical and data driven approach to decision making
  • Thorough understanding of good manufacturing practice
  • A flexible approach to working hours is required, with weekend coverage and after hours phone calls quite common
